11 Second Club; Maybe

November 6, 2008 – 12:29 pm

A quick drawing for some animation I’m doing for the 11 Second Club. I’ve been following their competitions for a while and some really nice work comes out of it, both technically and conceptually. Hopefully I’ll be able to get this thing done in time.

The design work is a take from the awesome Lackadaisy Cats webcomic.

Yeah, cartoon animal heads on kinda realistic bodies. Because this has totally worked well before. It should be an interesting experiment anyway.

Sketchbook Lectures

November 3, 2008 – 8:38 pm

Wow, I haven’t updated this place in over a month. I’ve actually been working on animation recently, hence the lack of new posts.

Anyway, here’s some drawings compiled over the last 6-8 weeks, give or take. They’re reasonably large, so “Full Size” view may be in order.

More Landscapes

October 1, 2008 – 7:44 pm

Photo-ref again. I have no idea if this is actually a good way of learning, but I find it useful. And fun.

I need to add snow to my list of things to learn how to draw properly.

I Fail at Titles

A couple of speed paintings from photo references:

Some so-so stuff from a while ago that I forgot about:

I think I need to learn how to do night scenes better.

Update

September 29, 2008 – 11:05 pm

I’ve been meaning to put this up for a while. My old G4 Mac Mini I’d had for years died a few weeks ago. Literally stopped dead. I’ve had computers turn off and not turn back on, parts break but I’ve never seen one just stop dead.

The SNMP RRD graph is particularly amusing:

And some pictures to make this barely worth while:

I also just finished marathoning Bokura Ga Ita. I’d been trying to watch this show for years since it came out and it’s kicked my ass every time I’d tried. It’s one of the most terminally depressing things ever. I need to find something happy to watch.

Some Animation

September 19, 2008 – 2:00 pm

So I figured I’d throw up a quick linetest. It’s from a short film I’ve been working on, involving giant garbage-monsters. This is the scene where it first appears:

To put it a little more in perspective, here’s the scene from the animatic. The linetest shot starts about 12 seconds in and ends about 24 seconds in:

It’ll look much smoother once I do cleenup and put it on 1s.

Girls and their Cats

Pictures

Came across this. It’s a test kinda thing to see how sensitive you are to colour. I’ve been messing with colour  a lot these past few days, so it was of vague interest. My score on the first time trying:

I have no idea if that’s good or not.

Anyway, some pictures from the last couple of days:

Batman is Always Relevant

September 9, 2008 – 1:23 am

So I saw Batman The Dark Knight a few days ago.

I liked it. I want to see it again.

Oh, I opened up an account over at Tegaki E in the continued effort to make sure I keep trying to get better. It’s a neat idea - the Flash applet for drawing in is like MS Paint but with less functionality. It’s good fun.
